The Hon. Dr Andrew Leigh MP

PositionShadow Assistant Treasurer

Andrew Leigh is the Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD in public policy from Harvard, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Law and Arts. Andrew is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, and a past recipient of the 'Young Economist Award', a prize given every two years by the Economics Society of Australia to the best Australian economist under 40. His books include Disconnected (2010), Battlers and Billionaires (2013), The Economics of Just About Everything (2014) and The Luck of Politics (2015). Andrew is a keen marathon runner, and hosts a podcast titled "The Good Life", which is available on iTunes.

Andrew is the father of three sons - Sebastian, Theodore and Zachary, and lives with his wife Gweneth in Canberra. He has been a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1991.

Adrian Brown

Position: Senior Executive Leader, Insolvency Practitioners, ASIC

Adrian Brown is a Senior Executive with ASIC's Insolvency Practitioners stakeholder team; the team responsible nationally for ASIC’s corporate insolvency activities and insolvency practitioner regulation.

Since joining ASIC in 2011, Adrian has used his over 20 years' experience as an insolvency practitioner to contribute formatively in building ASIC's credentials as an effective regulator of insolvency practitioners, supporting their work and assisting Government with legislative reform.

Before entering the insolvency profession, Adrian held accounting positions in both industry and academia.  Adrian is a member of the Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and a former registered liquidator.

Adrian Lovney

Position:  CEO, NPP Australia

Adrian commenced as the inaugural CEO of NPP Australia in September 2016.

Prior to joining NPP Australia, Adrian was General Manager, Product & Service at Cuscal, where he was responsible for all product management and operational functions, marketing, sales, and client service. Cuscal was a founding participant of the Real Time Payments Committee and Adrian was one of several senior staff deeply involved in the design, development and governance of Australia’s NPP.

Adrian has an Honours degree in Law from Queensland University of Technology and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

AMANDA LOgan-Halaj

Position:  National Insurance Recoveries Manager, Austral

Amanda has over twenty years’ experience in the financial services industry in a number of large global organisations performing various roles.  She has worked in numerous roles including life insurance technical underwriting, new business sales, and people leadership roles and has spent at least 15 years in a number of senior HR roles.  Her last HR role prior to this one was leading the HR function for Austral and QBE Claims.  Her passion for the business and its people returned her back to work directly in the business to manage the Insurance Recoveries team, with QBE Claims being her major client.  Amanda is excited to be attending her first annual AICM conference.

Benny Kesuma

Position:  Head of Credit Solutions, APAC, Bureau Van Dijk

Benny is the Head of Credit Solutions for APAC. He is responsible for strategy, human capital development and overall revenue in the credit space across corporates and financial institutions in Asia Pacific.

In the last 15 years with Bureau van Dijk, a Moody’s Analytics company, he has covered both market data and custom software solutions, predominantly in the credit risk space through APAC and North America. 

Brett Martin

Position: Assistant Commissioner - ATO

Brett has responsibilities across tax evasion and crime issues affecting Australia’s taxation and superannuation systems – with particular focus on illegal Phoenix activities, identity crime and refund fraud.  Over the course of his career Brett has also worked in the Australian Army, NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. 


Chris DoubÉ 

Position: CEO, Euler Hermes Australian & New Zealand

Chris Doubé is the CEO of Euler Hermes Australia and New Zealand. He has worked in the credit insurance industry for over 16-years, having held various positions with both single-line and multi-line insurers. He has experience in managing an APRA regulated insurance company with directorship level responsibility in managing credit insurance, surety, credit information, debt collection and debtor financing companies.


Colin Wagstaff

Position: National Manager, Client Accounts, QBE Global Credit & Surety

Colin has over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of Trade Credit Insurance with experience across the UK and Australia/New Zealand markets.  He leads a team of 40 dedicated and engaged credit insurance professionals at QBE, delivering exceptional levels of customer service.

Colin is a proud promoter of merit based gender equality and as the father of two young daughters is excited about the future opportunities for females in the workplace matching those of their male counterparts.

Cynthia Thomas

Position:  National Sales Manager, Austral

Cynthia has over twenty years’ experience in the mercantile and debt purchase recovery sector and has held senior positions within operational and vendor management as well as sales and marketing.  She brings a vast skill set to her role as the National Sales Manager for Austral and is pleased to be involved in celebrating the AICM’s 50th anniversary and being a part of the 2017 national conference.


George Staikos

Position: Director, Commercial Market Vertical, Equifax Canada

George brings over 28 years of experience in sales and marketing from the technology sector with a primarily responsibility for building and deploying Equifax’s marketing and product strategy for the commercial sector in Canada.  Clients include finance and insurance companies, manufacturers, capital leasing and financing companies, independent finance lenders, platform technology firms, and data partners. His strategies focus on bringing solutions to the market that address business challenges in the full Commercial Credit Risk lifecycle including client acquisition, risk modeling, origination, fraud, portfolio management, and collections.


Glen Woodhouse

Position:  Credit Controller, Simon Johnson

Glen Woodhouse  has over 20 years in Credit, he has managed all aspects of accounts receivable and credit control from preparation through to reporting processes. 

Throughout his career, Glen has worked with several multi-national companies, he has implemented significant cost saving and efficiency processes in line with the Organisational strategic plans.

Working at Simon Johnson Providores, Glen has used his vast knowledge and motivation to lead the business through the smooth implementation of the new electronic reminder process

Grant Morris

PositionNational Credit Manager, Southern Steel Group

Grant is National Credit Manager at Southern Steel Group who are Australia’s largest privately owned steel distributor. He joined them 7 months ago previously being the National Credit Manager at Coates Hire and CHEP Australia. He obtained his CCE in 1998, its inaugural year, and has since seen his team win the Credit Team of the Year and be the first business in Australia to be awarded the AICMQ. He is most proud of his team’s personal achievements with some 40 of them obtaining their Certificate IV in Credit Management, 10 of them obtaining their CCE and individuals being finalists and winners of the AICM’s Young Credit Professional of the Year Award at both state and national levels. Away from work he has developed a love for overseas travel, at least since his son and daughter have been moving and working through London, Toronto and San Francisco. His passion (after the Boss Lady who wrote this for him) is the Sydney Swans and could best be described as a Swans tragic attending all home and most interstate games

Gregory Mowle MICM CCE

Position:  Faculty of Business, Government & Law, University of Canberra

Gregory Mowle initially worked in the finance sector across the lending, insurance and credit management fields. In 1999 he was the Dux of the Australian Institute of Credit Management’s Certified Credit Executive program.

In 1999 he took his extensive experience of consumer credit to work for Lifeline Brisbane as a financial counsellor. In 2004 he developed financial literacy programs for The Smith Family, creating partnerships with major lenders and governments for effective early intervention programs


Gregg Odlum MICM CCE

Position: Support Services Manager Finance & Administration, Ecolab

Gregg has extensive experience in credit management in the media and environmental services fields.  In his shared services role at Ecolab he manages a large team across credit and other finance and administrative areas of the business and he thrives on delivering value to the business.

Gregg was the 2010 Australian Young Credit Professional of the year and is currently the AICM Finance Director.  Gregg has many hobbies outside credit including water skiing.


GeoffREy McDonald MICM CCE

Position:  Barrister at Law

Geoffrey McDonald has over 30 years of experience in the credit industry, both in his previous life as an insolvency practitioner (National Chairman of Hall Chadwick, Registered Liquidator and Registered trustee) and his current practice as one of Sydney’s leading barristers in the area of insolvency and commercial law.

James Neate MICM CCE

Position: Partner - Lynch Meyer Lawyers

“Smart credit is both science and art”, says James, something he has learned over many years. James is a senior Lawyer who has been active in the AICM for 25 years in a series of roles as educator/presenter, State Councillor, Division President, Director of Legal Affairs and now as National President.

James acts for creditors, collection agents and all types of insolvency practitioners and so understands the whole credit cycle from every perspective.


Jeff Hurst

Position:  Director, Trade Bureau Australia

Jeff Hurst is the Director of the Australia Trade Bureau.  He joined this in June 2016 as a new business venture and previously worked as the National Credit Manager for Scalzo Food. Jeff has over 40 years’ experience within the credit industry.

Jeff joined the AICM in 1988 and became a Certified Credit Executive in 2003.

Jeff has been heavily involved with the AICM in the Victoria and Tasmania Division, serving in various positions on the council, and at a national level currently as the Vic/Tas Director.  Recently Jeff’s contribution to the AICM and credit industry was recognised with elevation to life member.

His passions aside from Credit include family, AFL, bicycle riding and golf.

Joe Laban FICM CCE

Position: Regional Credit & Treasury Manager, Schneider Electric (Australia) Pty Limited

Joe is the Regional Credit & Treasury Manager of Schneider Electric and is based in Sydney.

With more than 30 years experience in Credit & Treasury management and working for major global organisations such as Chubb, Coca Cola, Goodman Fielder and Dow Chemical, he has a proven track record in managing large teams to deliver improvements of business processes and tangible benefits to the organisation.

Joe has been a member of the Australian Institute of Credit Management for over 25 years, is a CCE and has attained the status of Fellow of the Institute.

John Johnston

Position:  Vice President of Risk Underwriting, CoFace APAC

Having spent a number of years working at Export Finance Insurance Corporation (EFIC) Australia in political risk and industry-specific risk assessment and now Vice President for Risk Underwriting for Asia-Pacific Region; John has expertise in understanding macro-trends and building meaningful insights. John has helped a number of businesses manage their risk exposure while investing funds into the right areas to maximise growth opportunities with greater certainty.  

John winter

Position:  CEO & Company Secretary, ARITA

John took on the role of CEO of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association in February 2014.

Since taking on the role of CEO, John has led the restructuring of ARITA to become a financially sustainable and commercially run organisation. He has led a complete overhaul of the suite of education offerings, ensuring that courses offered by ARITA are market-relevant, accessible to small practices and comprehensively cover restructuring and turnaround.  John has also taken the lead on ARITA's advocacy and thought-leadership work, fronting many parliamentary inquiries on behalf of the profession and working collaboratively with stakeholders, such as Treasury, Attorney-General's, Productivity Commission, ASIC and AFSA on policy development.


Kameron Ahmad

Position: Head of Operations, OnDeck Australia

Kameron joined OnDeck as the Head of Risk and Operations in April, 2016. At OnDeck he is responsible for leading and developing their local risk management and operational capability. Prior to joining OnDeck, Kameron was a Director in Institutional Banking and Markets division at the CBA with a focus on strategy and active portfolio management.

OnDeck is a technology-enabled B2B lender that can evaluate, approve and fund small business loans in as fast as one business day. Since launching in 2008 OnDeck Group has originated more than US$7 billion in loans to over 70,000 small businesses across the USA, Canada and more recently in Australia.

Karl Hill MICM

Position:  Managing Director - Results Legal

Karl is the managing director of Results Legal, a national legal firm which specialises in protecting and promoting the rights of creditors.

Karl’s team is preferred legal provider to some of the largest trade credit businesses in Australia, as well as a range of banks, finance companies and insurers


Kate Carnell AO

Position:  Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO)

Kate Carnell commenced her role as Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) in March 2016.

Kate brings extensive experience and knowledge to the role of Ombudsman, having run her own small businesses for 15 years before becoming ACT Chief Minister in 1995 for a five year period.

Prior to her appointment as the inaugural ASBFEO, Kate held the position of CEO of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which represents more than 300,000 businesses across Australia. She has also served two years as CEO of beyondblue, four years as CEO of the Australian Food and Grocery Council, four years as CEO of the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) and three years as CEO of the National Association of Forest Industries (NAFI). 


Kathy Kostyrko, MAICD

Position:  Director, Hays Specialist Recruitment

Kathy has had a career in the recruitment industry in Australia and New Zealand spanning over many years, the last 23 years of which have been with Hays. Her roles within Hays have been at a senior executive level, either locally based, nationally or internationally. Currently Kathy has a national role managing Hays’ Federal Government business in Australia.  She is also the key presenter of our white papers on employment-related issues, presenting to clients and industry groups at Hays’ events, seminars and conferences across Australasia. 


Kim Powell MICM

Position:  Co- founder - EDX

Kim has specialised in PPSA consultancy and registration services since similar legislation was introduced in New Zealand in 2001/2002 - he is a co-founder of EDX.PPSA is a natural area of interest for him – he is a former receiver and liquidator and then headed up the recoveries division of a major NZ bank, before “jumping the fence” to the good side, rebuilding the business bank book as NZ emerged from recession in the early 90’s. This means he is expert in enforcing security, taking security and managing security.


Kirk Cheesman

Position:  Managing Director, National Credit Insurance (Brokers) Pty Ltd

Kirk Cheesman is the Managing Director of National Credit Insurance Brokers and started with NCI started in 1990. Throughout Kirk’s time at NCI the company has grown to over 160 employees and 3000 clients throughout Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Kirk shows strength in identifying and finding appropriate solutions to mitigate credit risks. This has been applied not only to small, local businesses but to large multi-national companies.


Linda Murray

Position:   Successful Businesswoman, Executive Coach, Mentor, Speaker and Trainer Company:  Athena Coaching

Linda is a successful Businesswoman, Executive Coach, Mentor, Speaker and Trainer. Her unique talent is teaching business owners and executives how to enjoy accelerated commercial and individual success.

Linda understands the formula of peak performance and supports her clients to leverage their skills and talents with ease. She understands how to create simplicity from complexity; structure from overwhelm; confidence from chaos. Linda also designs and facilitates a number of Gender Equality initiatives, last year resulting in one of her clients being awarded “Employer of the Year, Money Management

Luke Cieslak

Position:  National Credit Manager, EFM Logistics Services Group

Luke is National Credit Manager for EFM Logistics Services Group – Australia’s largest independent supply chain integrator (4PL). Luke has enjoyed working in the Logistics industry for 15 years and 12 months ago accepted the challenge of delivering significant change in the Credit management space at EFM LSG.

Luke has 10 years Credit management experience and was a previous AICM member between 2004-2010.

Luke is a proud family man with 2 young children, enjoys property investing and loves AFL footy.     

Mark Logue

Position:  Joint Managing Director, AMPAC

Mark has 30 years experience in debt recovery and credit reporting, covering all segments of industry and commerce throughout Australia and the Pacific Region. Having been involved as director and shareholder in the formation of 3 successful debt recovery businesses, Mark is experienced in business improvement and performance management methodologies as they relate to debt recovery and commercial credit risk management.

In Mark’s current role at AMPAC, his client base includes some of Australia's highest profile private and public sector organisations where credit risk management and the recovery of overdue debt is a high priority.

MIke Cutter

Position: Interim Group Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Equifax

Mike joined Veda in March 2015 with an extensive career in financial services, spanning more than 25 years, both in Australia and abroad. Mike’s roles have included time at National Australia Bank, CRO at ANZ (Australia), CEO at GE Money Australia & New Zealand and CEO of OAMPS Insurance Broking. Mike has knowledge of Comprehensive Credit Reporting from international markets and has been one of the original champions of CCR in the Australian market.

Mike has held numerous directorships and chairmanships with WesFarmers, ANZ and GE. He is a senior fellow of Finsia, has been Director of the Women’s Cancer Foundation since 2006 and served as a director of the Australian Finance Conference until 2009 and National Insurance Brokers Association until 2014.

Neil Shilbury micm

Position:  General Manager, Commercial Risk - Equifax

Neil Shilbury joined Equifax in June 2016, and has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector both in Australia and the Asian region. This included an extensive career in the commercial customer sector at ANZ Bank extending from Small Business to Institutional Banking, culminating in leadership of the bank’s Australian Corporate Banking business.

At Equifax Neil is responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction for Equifax’s portfolio of Commercial Solutions across Business Lending, Trade Credit, Trade Insurance and Financial Viability, Procurement and Ratings Analytics. This includes Equifax’s commercial credit bureau which houses credit history of commercial businesses across Australia.


Nick Pilavidis

Position: CEO, AICM

Nick is an experienced credit professional with over 20 years’ experience.

He has held roles in technology, property management and debt collection both in Australia and the UK.  Prior to taking on the full time CEO role at the AICM he was National Credit Manager at Ricoh Australia.

Nick was the 2005 Australian Young Credit Professional of the Year and served as a volunteer on the NSW Council and National Board. He holds a CCE and is a CPA.

Outside of credit he enjoys spending time with his family and occasionally finds time to watch a game of Rugby Union. 


Paul Burgess

Position:  National Credit Manager - Steelforce Australia Pty Ltd

Paul started with Steelforce Australia Pty Ltd over 3 years ago, his first taste of the steel industry, after many years as a regional/national credit manager in industries such as mining, telecommunications, utilities and petroleum. From his early days as a business owner, to evolving into credit management, Paul has lived a holistic view of business and how credit fits into this view.

Paul is a CPA and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Monash University. He is a MICM and also holds the distinction of Fellow with the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia/New Zealand. 

Paul Shaw

Position: National Manager, Regulation and Enforcement, Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA)

Paul Shaw is the National Manager, Regulation and Enforcement at the Australian Financial Security Authority, responsible for discharging the regulatory and review responsibilities of the Inspector-General in Bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy Act. Paul has been in that position since September 2013 and sits on AFSA’s National Management Board.

Prior to joining AFSA Paul worked for over 20 years at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.

Paul Shaw holds both accounting and legal qualifications.


Rhys Buzza

Position:  Shared Services Manager, Reece Group

Rhys joined the Reece Group, Australia’s leading supplier of plumbing and bathroom products, in June 2012. With over 20 year’s Commercial Finance experience across FMCG, Transport, Recruitment and Wholesale, Rhys has held senior roles internationally within Credit, Sales and Operations. Rhys has played a key role delivering processes improvement initiatives, revenue growth and cultural change throughout organisations. Rhys currently manages a Shared Services Team with over 60 staff.       

Within his current role Rhys has completely revamped the Credit/AR Department delivering a highly efficient team passionate about Reece and their customers. Rhys has had great success with stakeholder engagement, implementing and designing market leading technologies and driving innovation whilst providing focus and priority on staff development. This has resulted in increased sales and  industry leading customer and employee engagement.

Rhys is driven by success, leading Reece’s achievement of Credit Team of the Year award in 2014 and several members of the Reece Credit Team participating in the young credit professional of the year awards. Rhys’ ongoing mission is to  push boundaries through innovative continuous improvement methodology, whilst investing in people passionate about success and delivering a customised service to customers. 

Robbi Mack - MC

Robbi will be the heart of conference as the Master of Ceremonies.

As MC Robbi will set an interactive and engaging tone to the conference keeping things bright and energetic and providing much needed state change during the conference program yet still reinforcing conference themes and content to be remembered. 


Robyn Erskine

 Position: Partner, Brooke Bird

Robyn Erskine is a Partner of Brooke Bird a Melbourne based Insolvency and Restructuring practice and has been actively involved in the insolvency industry over the last 30 years where she has undertaken a wide range of formal and informal assignments in diverse industry segments.  She is a Registered Trustee in Bankruptcy and a Registered Liquidator.  

Robyn is a director of ARITA where she was President from 2011-2013. 


Rob Hanson

Position: Senior Research Consultant, Data61 | CSIRO

Rob Hanson is a senior research consultant at Data61 | CSIRO who supports decision makers in dealing with uncertainty, especially for emerging risk.  He is certified and experienced in identifying and articulating risk.  He specialises in the policy implications of emerging technology.  Rob is the lead author for, ‘Distributed Ledgers, Scenarios for the Australian Economy in 2030.’  Rob’s is a PhD candidate.

Rob has been in the public sector since 1998, including the Defence, Criminal Intelligence, and Emergency Management sectors, in primarily risk management and strategic foresight roles.  Rob currently volunteers his time on various Boards and Committees for the Association of Professional Futurists, and ISACA.

rodolfo Duque

Position: Credit Manager, The Australian Reinforcing Company (ARC)

Rodolfo is the Credit Manager at The Australian Reinforcing Company (a member of the GFG Alliance), a role that he has held since November 2016.

His 20 year career has seen him hold various Credit Management positions across the Telecommunications, FMCG, Consumer Electronics, and Security Services sectors. During this period Rodolfo also spent some time working in a business development capacity within the Trade Credit Insurance and IT Services space.

In 2002 Rodolfo became a member of the AICM, and in 2004 was announced as the national winner of the Australian Young Credit Professional of the Year award.

As members of the Bronte SLSC and with summer just around the corner, Rodolfo’s Sunday mornings will be enjoyed taking his two sons (9 & 7) to participate in their 4th Nippers season. 

Rowan McClarty MICM CCE

Position: Assistant Credit Manager, Automotive Holdings Group Limited

Currently Assistant Credit Manager at Automotive Holdings Group Limited, with 25 years’ experience in the credit field in Australia, the UK and South Africa. Rowan has worked in multiple industries, including retail, logistics and media and am a councillor on the WA division of the AICM and a director on the AICM board of directors

Rowan has been a member of the AICM for 4 years and became a Certified Credit Executive in 2017. 

Simon Bligh

Position: CEO, Dun & Bradstreet

Simon is the Chief Executive Officer of Dun & Bradstreet. Simon is passionate about data and has significant experience in using data to uncover insights and value for businesses, being recognised by the CDO Club in March 2017 as the first-ever Australia and NZ Chief Data Officer of the Year.

Prior to joining Dun & Bradstreet in early 2016, his 20 year career spanned a wide range of financial and commercial roles globally.

Simon was at Veda from 2010 to 2015 as Chief Financial Officer and then as Chief Data Officer. In this role he was responsible for Veda's fastest growing divisions and the sourcing, management and commercialisation of Veda's data. 


Vaios Kortikis

Position:  National Credit and AR Manager, Liberty OneSteel

Vaios is the National Credit and AR Manager at Liberty OneSteel, a position he has held since April 2010. Prior to his current role, he worked with large organisations such as Morgan & Banks, Skilled Group and Qantas and has over 20 years’ experience in the credit industry.

He describes his last few years with Arrium as challenging, but a great learning experience.

Vaios has been a member of the AICM for over 15 years and became a Certified Credit Executive (CCE) in 2016.

In his past time, Vaios is a referee for a local soccer camp and is actively involved in following his sons AFL career around the region on weekends.
